New Classic Rock Guitarists - Who's Hot and Who's Not?

With a dime a dozen of guitarists out there today, picking out who's hot and who's not can be a bitter-sweet challenge.
One way to overcome this challenge is to use, what I call, the Guitar Hero Effect Test. Basically... what you do is... compare the elements of the new rock guitarist to those of the legendary guitarists... and then... note where there is a similarity... something that matches... a common ground...
The best way to do this is to create and follow a simple method... for instance... you can...
1) Determine who the new rock guitarist's biggest influences are
2) Find what they share in common with legendary guitarists
3) Then create a list that states the following...
Like... name of legendary guitarist(s)... name of new rock guitarist... list what they have in common
The best way to illustrate this is using an example. Let's take the new classic rock guitarist LYONS is r.s.p. - rock sensory perception...
You read up on Lyons is r.s.p. and find that he has many influences. These range from the Beatles, to classical composers, to many rock guitar heroes. You decide to focus in on the guitarists.
As you go over the main qualities of the legendary guitarists that have contributed to Lyons' style you uncover the following... he has definitely capitalized on the experience of his heroes.
You then start to put a list together and it ends up looking something like this...
Like... Stevie Ray Vaughn... Lyons... was deeply inspired by Jimi Hendrix
Like... Carlos Santana... Lyons... is a self-taught guitarist
Like... Jimi Hendrix and Ritchie Blackmore... Lyons... plays a Strat
Like... Eric Clapton... Lyons... has a great respect for the blues
Like... Eddie van Halen and Alvin Lee... Lyons... is real fast on the guitar
Like... David Gilmour and Jimmy Page... Lyons... plays with intense feeling
Like Robin Trower and many others... Lyons... uses the Marshall Amp

DJ Laser Lights - A Guide to Choosing the Right Laser Lighting for You

Laser lighting has grown extremely popular over the last decade. With every major club & mobile DJ company starting to add them to their set-up. And why wouldn't they? It's a cheap way to add an extra "it" factor to any lighting set-up and take an average light show to the next level.
But with all the different lasers out there choosing the best one can be difficult. With colors including green, red, blue, purple, yellow, pink & white; models including single, dual, quads, animations and twinklers, how do you decide what's perfect for your set up? Not to mention power levels ranging from 5mW - 5000mW.
First we'll look at the color. What you have to look at first is the environment you're setting. Do you want a darker more intimate environment? Or do you want a vibrant club style environment. If you're looking for the more intimate darker environment, your reds & purples will be an excellent choice. With purple and red being naturally "darker" mood colors the room will be set for a different more underground experience then that of a vibrant exploding club lighting set-up. Not to say a main stream club set-up is a bad thing. By taking greens, blues & yellows, you can change the boring same old club experience and turn it in to something of a different caliber; something new, something exciting.
Of course to maximize your lighting show you can always go with a multi-color laser. Being able to dictate the colors will not only allow you to sync the lasers with the rest of the show but will allow the ultimate control over your shows. Change the entire mood of the show with a simple change of color.
Next up, we'll touch on some tips of how to decide the style of laser that will work best. Some may thing this is an easy decision as it's simply choosing single - quad outputs or add the addition of animation, but this choice can either make or break a laser show. The key thing to remember here is more isn't always better. Rooms can be absolutely killed with too many lasers flying around. Don't try and fill a small club with 10 quad lasers, you'll get nothing but overkill and irritation. If you are a laser enthusiast with a smaller area one way to fix this is to cycle the lasers, for one point in the night use darker lasers, another time period brighter more vibrant lasers; this can also be a way to build up the crowds energy throughout the night perfectly.
Lastly, we take a look at the extreme range of strengths of lasers available. Before thinking of upgrading to the highest power you have to think about questions similar to the style of the laser. The higher the power isn't always the best choice. If using controlling software whether DMX or ILDA a high power laser can be a great choice as you can safely project the laser above the crowd without contact, while still keeping the sought after classic prestige laser effect. This doesn't mean the lower powers don't have their own advantage. For crowd patterns, disco ball scanning and wall sketching the lower powers will definitely hold their own and you won't need to worry about an overwhelmed crowd.
Though not complete the guide above can help a first time laser purchaser think about a few things before choosing what best fits the job. When buying a laser you also have to remember that a laser in person can be pretty different from the videos taken. Most of the time in a good way, videos can never do the just of the crisp beams that a laser can demonstrate in person.
Laser lights are the lighting of the future. Though they may still be an unknown force to most people you can always step ahead of the game and turn what may be a moderate laser light show to the next level in entertainment and set yourself aside from the competition.

An Introduction to Digital Audio Tape - Or DAT

DAT - What is it?
Digital Audio Tape (DAT) was an audio recording and playback medium developed by Sony - introduced in 1987 - and was intended to be the successor to the audio cassette. It is somewhat similar in appearance but at 73 mm × 54 mm × 10.5 mm it is roughly half the size; its height being comparable to an triple-A battery stood on end. DAT was a digital technology with superior maximum quality as compared to a commercial CD and was capable of making perfect digital clones from a digital source unlike other standards of the day (Digital Compact Cassette and MiniDisc) that used lossy compression.
DAT - The Technology
Very similar to video recording technology of the day, DAT used a rotating head with a helical scan to record data. The method of data storage actually worked as a security measure of sorts and prevented splicing tapes to edit them which was possible on analog tapes, digital compact cassettes, and open reel digital tapes.
The DAT standard specified four sampling modes: 32 kHz at 12 bits, and 32 kHz, 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz at 16 bits. It was possible to find non-standard recorders that allowed recording at 96 kHz and 24 bits (HHS). DAT was unable to record long durations at the highest sample rates. The same tape at one rate could record for 6 hours and at another rate a mere 90 minutes. Only so much tape can be packed into a DAT shell.
With the more complicated rotary head the recorder mechanism was significantly more expensive for a DAT recorder than for its stationary analog counterpart. Because of this Philips and Panasonic created the Digital Compact Cassette (DCC) a less impressive but certainly enviable stationary head design that had decent quality at a reduced cost. It was no match for the DAT because of its required lossy compression but overall it did a good job and proved a static head could be used for high quality digital recordings.
DAT - Was There Ever a Need?
Despite the RIAA's lawsuits and lobbying against DAT manufacturers it eventually gained quite a following in the 1990's in the recording industry. Back in the 1990's a great many archival tapes were made using the DAT media. These archives are still available today in some places but the machines are no longer produced so unless these archives are transferred to another format it will become harder and harder with time to find archivists and audio transfer companies capable of transferring the media to a current format.
Because of DATs lossless encoding and high quality it induced no hiss or other electronic noise so became a favorite for creating perfect master copies. It is actually possible with enough digital equipment to create a complete digital chain between the microphone and the speakers on the CD player. With digital mixers and other digital hardware, analog induced problems could be completely eradicated from the majority of the process.
DAT In The Home
DAT, for many reasons, never gained a great deal of popularity with the general consumer. For the most part it was easier and less expensive to go with the alternatives. It was popular with some garage bands and boutique studios but the everyday Joe rarely saw one until their brief stint as sequential data back-up devices. Data backup tapes enjoyed a few years in the sun before being replaced by large and then ultra large external drives using the serial, parallel and later, USB ports.

Cheap Acoustic Guitar Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/6304734

When it comes to buying a first guitar for a young, budding rock star you are likely to want to buy a cheap acoustic guitar. An inexpensive acoustic guitar is generally the instrument most aspiring guitarists are probably going to begin practicing on. So, is it really possible to find an economical guitar that you or your young friend or relation will enjoy playing? The simple answer is "yes". However, you would be well advised to use the following guidelines to ensure you are more likely to make a good choice of instrument.
Specify a realistic budget and keep to it. When it comes to buying guitars and indeed many other items you really only get what you pay for. The quality of an instrument is directly proportional to its price. However, you do not always need to consider buying a brand new guitar. A previously used guitar can be an ideal choice for the budget conscious. However, be aware that vintage guitars from brands such as Gibson and Fender can command extremely high prices.
Consider how the guitar looks. Although it may be a cheap acoustic guitar, it is important that you like its appearance. It also goes much deeper than that. You need to perform a detailed inspection of the instrument to ensure the guitar's body, neck and bridge are not split or too worn. You should also confirm the neck of the guitar isn't warped or twisted. Also consider the type of wood used to construct the guitar's body, neck and fret board. Different woods have different characteristics such as coloring and weight. Whilst a wood's color is a matter of qualitative appreciation, its weight is an important factor - especially if there is a need to stand whilst playing the instrument for long periods of time.
Consider how the guitar feels. Hold the guitar in your ideal playing position and check that the neck is smooth and easy to navigate. Your hand's fingers should easily be able to reach all the strings and frets. If you are able to play chords and strum you should practice on your selected instrument to determine its "playability". If you are a beginner then have the confidence to spend time assessing your chosen guitar. Ensure you check the guitar's "action". This term refers to the distance the strings are away from the fret board. The strings should be near enough to the fret board for them to be easily depressed by your fingers. Ideally, this distance should be the same all the way along the length of the fret board.
Consider how the guitar sounds. It is important to check that the note each string makes when played without any finger touching the fret board is exactly an octave lower than the note that can be heard when each string is played with a finger pressed on the twelfth fret. If an octave is not heard, it is likely that the neck of the guitar is not properly aligned or the frets are not correctly positioned. In addition, the sound an acoustic guitar makes is dictated by factors such as the materials that the instrument is constructed with, the size of the body and sound hole as well as the type and quality of the strings used. It is certainly worth comparing and contrasting the sounds different guitar and string combinations make before deciding which cheap acoustic guitar to purchase.
