The Great Format War - DVD-A Vs SACD

The consumer is being faced with the most difficult decision with regard to consumer electronics since the days of VHS vs Betamax. A person would spend hard earned money on one fearing that their choice was to be the one that fades away with time - creating the necessity to buy a new machine and new tapes.
Yes, that same difficult decision between two competing technologies is here with the DVD-A and SACD. Will it be DVD-Audio or the SACD that has a bright future as the primary audio format? What, you never heard of either the DVD-A or SACD? Perhaps you once heard of one, but not the other? Most people aren't familiar with either format and probably will never be. Yet both have been around for more than a decade now. Yes, I was being sarcastic above - but take a trip over to eBay and do a search for "DVD-Audio" and "SACD" and you will find a number of familiar artists on the unfamiliar formats.
In all likelihood, neither DVD-A nor SACD will ever have much of a following. They have both failed in the consumer market and most people with DVD-A and/or SACD players and discs are audiophiles. Prerecorded SACD music releases rose a bit last year (2010) but are still down quite a bit since their peak years ago. Most SACD releases however are not new music releases but older titles being reissued for the audiophile audience.
It seems that multichannel audio formats are doomed to fail every time. The general public loves stereo, plain and simple - at least when we're not talking about audio for visual media. Back in the 1970s quadraphonic flopped. Remember the quad 8-tracks? There were also quadraphonic reel-to-reel tapes and even quadraphonic records called Quadradiscs. The newest multichannel failures are DVD-A, SACD, and probably BD-Audio too.Yes, that means Blu-ray Audio Disc. There is now such a thing.
DVD-Audio
DVD-Audio which is also commonly called DVD-A is a high fidelity digital audio format. Though an extension of the DVD family it does not cover video delivery. DVD Audio first came on the scene at the turn of millennium and is still in use by a few people today.
The much higher capacity of a DVD allows them to support considerably more music with no loss of quality or vastly increased quality with large amounts of information being able to fit on a single disc. On top of the increased quality and quantity the DVD-Audio format also offers additional channels for multi-channel effects. Unlike the CD, DVD-A supports everything from mono to 5.1 channel surround sound. The compact disc, on the other hand, only held stereo recordings. If mono music was to be recorded to CD it would have to be converted to "stereo" by having 2 channels with identical material. Multichannel recordings were not possible.
SACD
Super Audio CD more commonly called SACD was developed by Sony and Philips as a High Fidelity audio format for optical media and can support dual channel stereo recordings and multichannel surround sound recordings. It has been designated as the scarlet book standard as opposed to the red book standard for the traditional Compact Disc. Sony and Philips introduced it in 1999 and were also the companies that collaborated on the original compact disc standard. The original CD has been superseded and surpassed in capacity, fidelity, dynamic range and stereo imaging by SACD.
As mentioned above the SACD can record audio in both Stereo and Surround Sound and uses a method called PDM to store the information but can also use PCM (the more common way of storing audio digitally - used for the CD, DAT, digital telephone systems, etc). The discs are dimensionally identical to a standard Compact Disc and have the same density as a DVD. It can also stream data at an uncompressed rate of 5.6 Mbps, with a sampling rate of 2.8224 MHz and at a resolution of 1 bit. That is 4 times faster than the Red Book CD.
What the Format War Means to Consumers
Nothing! At least for most of us.
What does it mean for the consumer when a format war takes place between mutually incompatible technologies or proprietary formats? The competition for the same market space can create a bit of pain and grief for the consumer that picks the losing side. Basically the only thing a consumer can do is to try doing a little research on their own. See how many companies are backing each player and how much the format seems to be spreading. With regard to DVD-A and SACD though, there are numerous "universal" players that can handle both DVD-A and SACD, as well as other formats such as CD and even BD-Audio.
With the advancement of traditional hard drives and now solid state drives we probably won't have to worry too much about lots of new and incompatible audio formats warring with each other in the future. But then again, have you noticed how many digital audio file formats are out there already? At least they're often somewhat easy to convert to other file formats - even if without an improvement in quality that's promised by a new file format - a kind of backwards compatibility.
Both DVD-Audio and SACD offer a higher level of quality and supersede the familiar Compact Disc. Both formats are able to handle multichannel surround sound recordings and both types of player are backward compatible with CDs. With the emergence of hybrid players that can handle both formats the war turned into more of a glaring contest as both formats stalled, unable to grab any real market share beyond the small community of audiophiles. Consumers have basically been turning to the MP3 and other compressed digital file formats rather than buying all new equipment and physical media like CDs and cassettes.

The Best Jackson Browne Songs

Jackson Browne has written and performed memorable music for well over four decades clearly establishing himself as one of the top songwriters of our time. With a body of work that includes thirteen albums, identifying his top ten best Jackson Browne songs will be a formidable, but enjoyable task. Like many fine artists, the predominance of Jackson Browne's best work resides in his first three albums: "Saturate Before Using," "For Everyman" and "Late for the Sky."
Just making the cut for the best Jackson Browne songs is "Miles Away," from the album "I'm, Alive." "I'm Alive" features Jackson's familiar theme of a relationship on the rocks framed by a powerful rock ensemble accompaniment.
Landing at number nine is "Redneck Friend" from the album "For Everyman." This composition is Browne's best piece of rock and roll. The driving bass on this track sets up a launching pad for some of David Lindley's best slide guitar work.
"For Everyman," from the album "For Everyman," makes the list at number eight. In my view, "For Everyman" is Jackson Browne's best "Apocalypse" song. Although, "Rock Me On the Water" and "After the Deluge" are also very strong contenders.
The number seven selection is, "Take It Easy" from the album "For Everyman." This fine tune launched a stellar career for the Eagles while firmly establishing the genre of Country Rock. Jackson's rendition on this album is every bit as good as the Eagle's.
"Jamaica Say You Will," from the Album "Saturate Before Using," is my six pick. Many artists have covered this song; many more will.
Making my top five, "In the Shape of Heart," from the album "lives in the Balance." "In the Shape of Heart," contains a brutally honest and personal lyric depicting a shattered relationship and hinting at domestic violence.
"The Late Show," from the album "Late for the Sky," is my fourth selection. The insight, emotion and lyrical imagery is this song rival Bob Dylan's best compositions.
At number three,"These Days," from the album "For Everyman." Greg Allman's version of this song may be somewhat better. However, the way Jackson Browne leads into "These Days" with "I Thought I Was a Child" on the "For Everyman" album, make a very powerful statement about the highs and lows of love.
"Doctor My Eyes," from the album "Saturate Before Using," is my bride's maid. Other artists have not tried to cover this song. That's because they know it would be a disappointment. This could be the best "loss of innocence" song ever. The guitar solo at the end is truly something special.
Finally, the best Jackson Browne song, "Fountain of Sorrow," from the album "Late for the Sky." The poignant intimate lyrics of this song amaze me. While the music that accompanies is engaging, it clearly is secondary to the story. Both work together to create a lasting work that touches the listener deep.

Make Your Own Beats - 4 Tips To Make Better Beats

The one thing that differentiates a good and a bad beat is your creativity. There are many other factors but creativity is the key. So, you got to be creative in making your beats. Here are a couple of tips that could help your creativity juice keep flowing.
Get Yourself Into the Music Mood
Not only in beat making but almost everything that we do. We need to be in the mood to get the best out of ourselves. So, get your favorite music collection and start listening to your favorite artist. Just indulge in the music comfortably with your beat making software ready right beside you so that you can start playing around, making your own beats when the inspiration comes.
Use The Right Beat Making Software
This can be one of the major factors. You need to use the right beat making software. You can play around with a few and find one with the most editing features, etc. so that you can have more options to tweak your beats for the best sound. This would take you some time but do sufficient research to find the right one. Some have only 8 sequencers but a good one should have 16.
Find a Mentor
This is somebody that you can refer to whenever you are stuck. However, it can be the most difficult part as well for a lot of people. Unless you have relative or friends that are already doing well in the field, it would almost be impossible to get a good mentor with low mentor fees. Well, this is no longer a problem now because we have this thing call forum. I belong to a beat making forum (required member's access) that comes together with one of the beat maker I purchased. A forum is even better than a mentor. While you will not be getting "one on one" guidance but don't forget that you are accessing to a pool of people, a community of music producers in one place to share ideas, ask questions, etc. Don't be surprised if you found members that are ready to share their lyric for your beats and even meet your future producer or prospect there!
Collecting Feedback on Your Beats
The saying that the more comments you receive the better you would become is true. So, it's important that you are taking comments and feedback about your beats seriously. They can severely improve your beat making skills and bring you to the next level. Other than friends and family, a forum is still the best place. Don't worry about the sound quality getting downgraded when you upload online. If you are using the right beat maker, rest assured that the sound quality is as goods as those from studio equipment.
Whether you are just starting out to make your own beats for fun or intend to be in business in this game, you'll need to be persistent in your effort. Above tips should get you started on the right track.

Exquisite Moments In Popular Music

What makes a great song? It can be a lot of different things to different people and no list will please everybody. Since there are already so many lists of the greatest songs, albums, etc., I propose something a bit different: those little moments, those exquisite details, that make a song worth listening to over and over again. Some songs on my list are not well-known but that's part of the fun - discovering new gems. Your mileage may vary, but these are my picks; check them out and see if you agree!
Ray Charles - HIT THE ROAD, JACK: Ray's responses to the Raylettes singing the chorus lines are some of the best screams I've ever heard.
Sam Cooke - CUPID: The "whoosh" to emphasize the firing of Cupid's arrow was a stroke of genius.
The Beatles - ALL MY LOVING: Paul's walking bass line, John's breakneck rhythm guitar and George's terse but just right lead break make this one of the most joyful performances ever recorded. By the way, trivia buffs, this was the first song the Beatles ever played on The Ed Sullivan Show - not one of their singles. Gutsy move!
Van Morrison - BROWN EYED GIRL: The oh-so-tasty acoustic lead guitar lines running through the song are why I keep coming back for another listen.
The Beach Boys - GOD ONLY KNOWS: The wraparound harmony round that ends the song is why nobody has ever topped Brian Wilson's ability to arrange vocal harmonies.
Bob Dylan - BLOWIN' IN THE WIND: Written nearly 50 years ago and nobody has topped the lyrics of this song that chronicles man's inhumanity to man.
Janis Ian - GETTING OVER YOU: The best breakup song I've ever heard from an under-rated songwriter.
Nils Lofgren - SOME MUST DREAM: Recorded live with no overdubs, the acoustic guitar solo that ends the song is deliciously played. Neil Young, Ringo Starr and Bruce Springsteen weren't wrong in wanting to play with this guy.
Cheryl Wheeler - MUSIC IN MY ROOM: This is the song for every aspiring musician who's ever played along to a record trying to learn how to play it.
Little Feat - A APOLITICAL BLUES: The live version has the nastiest guitar rave-up ending I've ever heard. The dueling slide guitars cut like razors.
Paul McCartney - HERE TODAY: Paul's grief over John's death resulted in his best song after the death of the Beatles. Incredibly moving.
Eric Clapton - RAMBLING ON MY MIND: The live version from E.C. WAS HERE, where he calls out key change after key change for his guitar solo while building it to a climax. Jeff Beck was impressed - 'nuff said.
Mamas & Papas: DEDICATED TO THE ONE I LOVE: I know it's an old Shirelles tune but how can you argue with those 4-part harmonies belting out the chorus?
Mary Black - SUMMER SENT YOU: A waltz in the guise of a pop song. One of the musicians lets out a "whoop" as the song nears the end.
Neil Young - HARVEST MOON: What sounds like an extended high-hat sizzle is really a straw broom sweeping the floor and being miked. You gotta love low-tech special effects!
The Beatles - SOMETHING, DON'T LET ME DOWN: Paul's melodic, counterpoint bass playing on both of these songs elevates them to another level. The bass lines are almost symphonic.
Led Zeppelin - STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN: It's been played to death but the ascending acoustic guitar line in the verse is still a thing of beauty.
Christine Lavin - ALL I HAVE TO DO IS DREAM / A SUMMER SONG: What A great idea to make a medley of these great songs and when she modulates into a different key in the last verse it blows the roof off.
Beach Boys - KISS ME BABY: The most overlooked gem in the Beach Boys catalog; it was buried on Side 2 of their TODAY! album. The equal to anything on PET SOUNDS or SMILE.
The Who - Keith Moon's drums: The energy on all those Who classics was generated by Moon's hyperactive, whirling dervish drumming style, yet it never sounded like it was overplayed. To this day nobody sounds like "The Moon."
That's twenty examples - a bit more, actually - and I could easily come up with twenty more for a completely different list. Listen to your favorite records and make your own list of those musical moments that keep you coming back for more. Listening for those little subtle elements will give you a whole new level of appreciation! Enjoy!

Swimwear Modesty

All swimsuits by a factor of punch, sexy or hot babes roaming the beaches of miniature costumes (which they reveal more hidden links). But the port stuff is not cup of tea for all. It is not always in body size, which most of the questions as you slip into a bathing suit is a quotient of comfort you opened the door to all areas such as the beach. If someone is not well, especially in a swimsuit she shows in body language and facial expressions as well.

However, if you are a baby into the water, then it is not necessary to carry small things. The markets have a variety of ways, and that in different color schemes for every taste style. Women can go either swimwear swimsuits camouflage or leg, covering the entire body is covered and a lot of shame attached to it. These are essentially concealing costumes that cover the body from neck to ankles. Above the normal body-water departure, while the bottom has drawers in dark shades continue to make themselves thinner.
This insurance i [swimsuit is also ideal for people whose skin is sensitive to the salty sea water. And for those who will burn the skin into a nightmare, swim leg is another good option. Still, it is not necessary to put your body to extreme harsh climate of the beach and later regret it.

So what if you can not wear two-piece bikini like Halle Berry or Jenniffer Aniston, at least you can have all the fun in the water.
